Symmetry Trainer Brings “Can Do” Philosophy to “American Gladiators” Role
Beth Horn is an upbeat, down-to-earth fitness professional. She’s a popular trainer at Symmetry Center, a fitness model and a Weider champion. Beginning January 6, she takes on a new role as Venom, one of a dozen “American Gladiators” who will be terrorizing contestants on the returning NBC-TV show.
As a trainer at the River North Symmetry Center, Beth likes “making a difference” in her clients’ lives “with every single workout.” Ever since she became a personal trainer right out of college, Beth has employed a “functional training” style to produce lasting results.
Now the trainer herself is having to “train hardcore.” After she was chosen for the Gladiator team late last year, she has put in long days and undergone grueling routines to get mentally and physically prepared for the challenge. It’s “high energy and intense,” she admits, and clearly, she is enjoying the experience. The premise of the show, if you don’t know, is that 12 ancient “super hero” Gladiators from the mists of time have come back to go up against 20 ordinary folks, eliminating them one by one, until one man and one woman emerge triumphant.
As Beth describes her Venom character, she is “very sweet on the outside,” but not to be messed with. Hmm…that might be how some of Beth’s training clients would describe her approach.

She is obviously pleased that a number of her clients have been with her for as many as 10 years. She admits the hardest thing for a trainer is “variety. You have to mix it up” to keep clients motivated, she says. And while she is away, Beth has made sure there will be no slacking off. Her clients will be continuing her tough and varied workouts, under the watchful eyes of trainers she selected.
“American Gladiators” premieres Sunday January 6 at 8:00 pm Central time. Laila Ali and Hulk Hogan are the hosts.
